Get an Instagram account's country and join date

Read the "About this account" details of a public Instagram account (country, month joined) plus follower and post counts. 10 credits per call.

To find which country an Instagram account is based in and when it was created, call GET /v1/instagram/profile/about with the account's handle. It returns Instagram's "About this account" details (country, month joined, published contact) plus the follower count and lifetime post count. It costs 10 credits. Meta's Instagram Graph API does not expose another account's "About this account" details.

Cost

10 credits per call. Checking 100 accounts costs 1,000 credits. Asking for the same account again within 24 hours is answered from the shared cache for 2 credits. Failed calls and empty results are free.

Make the request

The handle is the username without the @: https://www.instagram.com/instagram/ has the handle instagram.

cURL
curl "https://api.insightsocial.app/v1/instagram/profile/about?handle=instagram" \
  -H "x-api-key: $INSIGHTSOCIAL_API_KEY"

FieldWhat it holds
data.author.ext.countryThe country Instagram lists under "About this account". United States here.
data.author.ext.account_createdThe month the account joined, as Instagram writes it: February 2012. It is text, not a date.
data.author.followersThe exact follower count. 686,584,045 here.
data.author.posts_countLifetime post count. 8,618 here.
data.author.ext.public_email, public_phoneContact details the account publishes, when it publishes any. null here.
data.author.idThe numeric user ID, which other Instagram endpoints accept as user_id.

What are the limits?

  • Month, not day. account_created holds a month and a year as text, such as February 2012. joined_at stays null, so parse the text yourself if you need a date.
  • Country as Instagram lists it. country is the value Instagram shows in "About this account", not a location we work out.
  • Public accounts only. The endpoint reads the details of a public account.
  • Contact is often empty. public_email and public_phone are null when Instagram shows none. null means unknown, not that the account has no email.

What can I build with it?

  • Region filters for creator lists. Keep or drop creators by country before outreach, for example to run a campaign in one market.
  • Account age checks. Flag accounts created recently in a list of followers, commenters or applicants.
  • Profile totals. Read an account's lifetime post count and exact follower count in one 10-credit call.
