What is the Instagram Followers Scraper?

The InsightSocial Instagram followers scraper is a free Chrome extension that exports the follower list — or the following list — of any Instagram account you can already view, straight to CSV, Excel, or JSON. There is no Graph API application to submit, no business verification, and no access token to keep alive.

It reads the same paginated followers endpoint instagram.com serves to your own logged-in session, walking the cursor page by page and streaming each batch into the sidebar as it arrives. You watch the count climb, and you can stop it at any point without losing what has already been collected.

One thing worth saying plainly, because most tools in this category do not: Instagram rate-limits follower lists, and no browser extension can remove that limit. How many rows you get depends on the target account, not on the tool. We explain exactly what that looks like below rather than promise you a number we cannot deliver — and where a run recorded what you asked for, the portal shows that next to what arrived, so a short list reads as a throttled target rather than a mystery.

Two ways in

There are two surfaces, and both produce the same export:

  • From the profile page — open instagram.com/username, and the sidebar offers Followers and Following alongside the profile's own posts and details. Convenient when you are already looking at an account and deciding what to take.
  • From the followers URL directly — open instagram.com/username/followers and the sidebar reads the handle straight out of the URL, so you can queue a specific account without visiting its grid first.

Followers, Following, or the profiles behind them

Three related runs, and picking the right one saves a second pass:

RunWhat you getColumns
FollowersThe accounts that follow your targetUsername, full name, profile picture, verified, private, badges
FollowingThe accounts your target followsIdentical to Followers
ProfilesDeep detail on one accountBio, bio links, external URL, follower/following counts, category, account type

Followers and Following are the same dataset in two directions — same columns, same export formats, same limits. Profiles is a different job: it goes deep on a single account rather than wide across a list. If you want bio links and contact routes for the accounts in a follower list, export the list first, then run the profiles pass on the handles worth pursuing.

Who is it for?

  • Competitive analysts measuring who follows a rival account and how that audience shifts month over month
  • Market researchers mapping the audience of a niche account to size and describe a category
  • Agencies auditing an influencer's follower list for authenticity before recommending a partnership
  • Brand managers measuring audience overlap between their own account and a competitor's
  • Content creators finding collaboration candidates among the people who follow similar creators
  • Academic researchers building follower-graph datasets for social network analysis

Key Benefits

  • Both directions from one tool — Followers and Following are the same scrape type with identical columns, so no second workflow to learn
  • Cursor-driven, not scroll-driven — the extension drives Instagram's own pagination rather than faking mouse wheels at a dialog, which is why healthy targets reach thousands of rows instead of stalling on page one
  • Stop any time, keep everything — rows are saved as they stream, so a run you cut short is still a usable export
  • Honest counts — the portal records what you asked for next to what arrived, so a truncated list is visible rather than mysterious
  • Private accounts you follow work too — if Instagram shows you the list, the extension can read it
  • No API key, no app review — nothing to register, no token to refresh, no Graph API permissions to request

How to Use the Instagram Followers Scraper

Step 1: Install the Extension

Add InsightSocial from the Chrome Web Store. The icon appears in your browser toolbar. No account is required for your first scrape.

Step 2: Open the Account

Go to instagram.com/username for the account whose audience you want, or straight to instagram.com/username/followers. You need to be logged into Instagram — the extension reads your own session and never asks for your password.

Step 3: Open the Sidebar

Click the InsightSocial icon. The sidebar reads the handle and shows it back to you, so you can confirm you are pointed at the right account before anything runs.

Step 4: Pick Followers or Following

Choose Followers to export who follows the account, or Following to export who it follows. Then set a target: 50, 100, or 500. The run stops once that many accounts have been collected.

Step 5: Start the Scrape

Click "Start Scraping" and leave the tab in front of you. Rows appear in the sidebar as each page lands. Larger targets take proportionally longer and are more likely to meet Instagram's rate limit, so start with 100 on an account you have not scraped before to see how it responds.

Step 6: Export

Click "Export" and choose CSV for spreadsheet work, .xlsx for Excel, or JSON for a script. Every run also syncs to your private InsightSocial portal, where you can re-export it later at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did I only get 50 followers from an account with 17,000?

Because Instagram stopped serving pages, not because the scrape failed. Instagram forces a page size of 25 regardless of what is requested, and on rate-limited targets it reports "no more results" after one or two pages — a run like that finishes in a couple of seconds having asked for far more. A healthy target behaves completely differently: pages keep coming and runs reach several thousand rows over many minutes.

The practical response is to wait and retry later rather than immediately re-run the same account, which tends to extend the limit. Where the run recorded a target, the portal displays it next to the captured count, so you can tell a throttled target from a low setting at a glance.

How many followers can I export in total?

There is no cap in the extension, and scraping itself is unlimited on every plan. Instagram is the only ceiling. In practice, cooperative accounts return several thousand rows in a single run, throttled ones return dozens, and the difference is a property of the target account rather than something a tool can configure around.

Can I scrape the followers of a private account?

Only if you already follow it. The extension reads what your own session can see, so a private account you follow works exactly like a public one, and a private account you do not follow shows you nothing — the same as browsing manually.

Does the export include emails or phone numbers?

No. A follower list carries usernames, names, profile pictures, and account flags — that is all Instagram puts in the response. Publicly listed contact routes live on individual profiles, so the path is to export the list, pick the accounts that matter, and run the Instagram Profile Scraper over those handles, which returns bio, bio links, and external URLs. Bio-link enrichment in the portal then resolves what those links point at. That is intended for research, sourcing, and due diligence rather than unsolicited outreach.

Can I export the following list as well as the followers?

Yes, and it is the same scrape type in the other direction. Pick Following instead of Followers — identical columns, identical export formats, identical limits. Exporting both directions for one account is two runs.

Will the account owner know I exported their followers?

No notification is sent. The extension reads the same followers dialog you see when browsing normally, through your own session.

How much does it cost?

Scraping is free and unlimited on every plan. You spend export credits only on the rows you export, one credit per row, and re-exporting a row you have already paid for is free:

  • Free plan: 500 export credits per month
  • Pro Monthly: 10,000 export credits per month for $9.99/mo
  • Pro Yearly: 10,000 export credits per month for $95.88/year ($7.99/mo)

Do I need the Instagram API?

No. There is no Graph API application, no business verification, no app review, and no token to refresh. The extension reads the public responses instagram.com already serves to your browser.

Is scraping Instagram followers legal?

Collecting publicly visible data for research, competitive analysis, and audience measurement is long-established practice. Respect Instagram's Terms of Service and privacy law such as GDPR and CCPA, anonymise handles in anything you publish, and never use a follower list to target or harass an individual.

Working the same account from another angle? The Instagram Profile Scraper goes deep on the accounts you found here, the Instagram Hashtag Scraper finds creators by topic rather than by who they follow, and the Instagram Comments Scraper pulls the discussion under any post.
