How to Use Google Maps Review Scraper
Get started in under 2 minutes. No coding or API keys required.
- 1
Install InsightSocial
Add the Chrome extension and sign in with Google. One extension covers social platforms and review sites alike.
- 2
Sign in to Google, then open the place
Google shows reviews in full only to signed-in visitors, so use the browser where you are signed in. Any shop, restaurant, hotel or business on google.com/maps.
- 3
Allow Google Maps once
The first time you scrape Google Maps, Chrome asks you to let InsightSocial read google.com. It asks for that one site, only when you use it.
- 4
Press Start and leave the tab open
It reads what Maps loads as it scrolls the reviews, so the tab has to stay open. The side panel counts as it goes.
- 5
Export from your dashboard
The reviews sync to your InsightSocial dashboard as they come in. Browse and filter them there, then export to CSV, Excel, JSON or Google Sheets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Signed out, Google Maps shows only a handful of reviews per place. Signed in, it shows the full list, and that is what the extension reads.
In our tests a place with 89 reviews returned all 89, plus the owner’s 87 replies. Big places take longer because the extension scrolls the reviews the way a person would, so a run stops at a time limit: a busy location returned 930 reviews in two and a half minutes.
No. It reads the reviews page your signed-in browser is already showing. It never posts, rates or changes anything on your account.
Not in one run. Each run reads the place you have open. Open the next place and run it again; each session names the place it came from.
No. The extension reads the page you have open in Chrome, so there is no developer account to apply for, no key to manage and no code to write.
InsightSocial reads review and discussion sites only when you use them. The first Google Maps run asks Chrome for access to that one site, and you can withdraw it any time from the extension's settings in Chrome.
Scraping and reading your reviews in the dashboard are unlimited on every plan. Only exporting uses credits: the free plan includes 500 export credits a month, one per exported row, and a row you already exported is free to export again. Pro adds 10,000 a month from $7.99/month billed yearly.
